Last week, Joey Kocur advanced to the Quarter Finals, defeating Peter Worrell.

Leafs Lose Game One In Boston

bruinscelebrate_3153-430x298

The first playoff game for the Maple Leafs in nine years ended on a sour note as
Boston defeated Toronto by a score of 4-1.

After James van Reimsdyk opened the scoring for the Leafs early in the first period,
but it was all Boston after that as they dominated nearly the entire game.   Boston
outshot Toronto 40-20.

As a Leaf fan I found this game difficult to watch but I will point out some positives
that hopefully the Leafs can build on use to make this a competitive series.  I
liked the way James Reimer played, he only gave up one real questionable goal to
Johnny Boychuk, though it was a bullet of a slap shot.  If it wasn’t for Reimer’s
efforts in net this game could have been a blowout.  Also, I didn’t think the Leafs
were too over-matched physically by the Big Bad Bruins.

I’m looking forward to game two on Saturday night.  It was tough to lose game one
but Leaf fans like myself are just happy the boys are finally back in the playoffs after
nine long years of misery.   The future is still bright for the blue and white.

2013 NHL Draft Lottery Results

April 29 saw the 2013 NHL Draft Lottery take place, which would decide the draft order from 1 to 14 in the upcoming draft, decided by the 14 teams that did not make the Stanley Cup playoffs.

This was the order of placing, and their odds going into the lottery.

Rank Team % of Winning Points
1 Florida Panthers 25.0 36
2 Colorado Avalanche 18.8 39
3 Tampa Bay Lightning 14.2 40
4 Nashville Predators 10.7 41
5 Carolina Hurricanes 8.1 42
6 Calgary Flames 6.2 42
7 Edmonton Oilers 4.7 45
8 Buffalo Sabres 3.6 48
9 New Jersey Devils 2.7 48
10 Dallas Stars 2.1 48
11 Philadelphia Flyers 1.5 49
12 Phoenix Coyotes 1.1 51
13 Winnipeg Jets 0.8 51
14 Columbus Blue Jackets 0.5 55

The lottery results however, showed a slightly different story. They showed that being the worst team in the NHL, doesn’t necessarily grant you the First Overall Pick, as the Colorado Avalanche move up from 2 to 1, at the expense of the Florida Panthers, who take the 2 spot. Otherwise, there was a status quo with all other positions, meaning the draft order for the first 14 picks in the draft at the moment, are as follows:

Rank Team
1 Colorado Avalanche
2 Florida Panthers
3 Tampa Bay Lightning
4 Nashville Predators
5 Carolina Hurricanes
6 Calgary Flames
7 Edmonton Oilers
8 Buffalo Sabres
9 New Jersey Devils
10 Dallas Stars
11 Philadelphia Flyers
12 Phoenix Coyotes
13 Winnipeg Jets
14 Columbus Blue Jackets

The 2013 NHL Draft will be held Sunday June 30.

Bored Hockey Fan Fantasy League – Fantasy Stanley Cup Playoffs

Quebec Nordiques. DarkSideOfTheMoen. One week to decide just who will skate away with the Stanley Cup.

This is the final week of the Bored Hockey Fan Fantasy League, only one team can walk away with the Cup. Let’s see how both teams got to this point.

Quebec Nordiques decimated their opponents as the third seed going in. They easily accounted for the sixth seeded GreatNessPerSonified 10-1-2, then steamrolled the second seeded It’s The Flying V! 9-3-1 in the semi finals, and went into the final week, as not only the highest seed left, but as favourites,

DarkSideOfTheMoen however struggled, pulling out all the moves to beat arch-rival @GoftheInternet 7-6 in the first round, before beating surprise packet FistCity CaPs 6-5-2 in the semis, after the CaPs upset the #1 seeded Legs in the first round.

So there it is, the third seeded Quebec Nordiques, against the four seed, DarkSideOfTheMoen. It was 3 vs. 4 in the finals last season, with the four seed winning out. Will the four seed take it again this season? Let’s find out if lightning strikes twice for the 4 seed.

NHL 14 – Enforcer Engine Insight

More details have been released, as to how the Enforcer Engine will be integrated into NHL 14. They were revealed as hidden Easter eggs in the NHL 14 trailer released recently. For those who didn’t catch the Easter eggs, here’s a detailed look at what they were, courtesy of.. http://www.easports.com/nhl/news/article/nhl-14-easter-eggs

 1. All-new Third Person Presentation: Say goodbye to the first person fighting system that was introduced in NHL 10. The Enforcer Engine brings an all-new authentic third person experience that will never break you away from the on-ice action.
 2. Post-Fight Celebrations: Fights are intense. Winning a fight is electrifying. You will celebrate the thrill of winning a fight by engaging the crowd or taunting your opponent.
 3. Everyone is Live: No more first person fighting mini-game where everyone leaves the ice. Players on the ice will interact with each other, pairing off and jostling. The ref will also be a part of the action.
 4. Real Fight Damage: The black eyes, bruising and lumps you take in a fight will last throughout the game. NHL hockey can be a battle. Now you’ll have the scars to prove it.

This sounds like that the game could mean that the game may continue at times, whilst a fight is starting, which would be good, but only it if it seamless and not some kind of loading screen in between the two. Post-Fight Celebrations seem pointless. All-in brawls of yesteryear could finally make it into a video game! The days of when Steve Ott, Sean Avery and Krys Barch would take on entire teams, only without biased Boston Bruins commentary, as in the video below.

Real Fight Damage sounds like a good idea, but unless they have a lot more close-up shots of players, there isn’t really much point, as you don’t see faces of players all that much, unless they score goals or have a lot of hits/saves etc. All good ideas on paper, but it will be interesting to see how these look when the game hits shelves this September.

FIRST THOUGHTS

Live the Life sounds similar to the My Player mode found in the NBA 2K series. As the 2K mode based around a single player, is the best going around, it will be interesting to see whether or not EA can match the sheer superbity of their 2K counter-parts, because if they are able to, in EA’s own way, then Be A Pro could very well be the main feature of NHL ’14.

EA Sports NHL Online Seasons looks to be the same setup as in the FIFA franchise, also by EA Sports. This setup is very decent, very easy to follow, and adds just that little bit more when playing online. I hope this makes it into Ultimate Team as well, for online and single player, like it has in FIFA ’13.

Everything else just seem to be improvements and tweaks to features they have brought in from previous seasons, however I am sure that more information will come out closer to the release date of September 10th for North America and September 13th in Europe, and BoredHockeyFan.com will have all the details.
